Thread: My 1996 chevrolet z71 will not go into 4wd?

Its an electronic 4wd with hi and lo 4wd.

The lights blink on both but never go solid to 4wd.

I hear a noise instantly when i push he button but it never locks the wheels in.

The 2wd changs instantly every time i push the button.

Transfer case actuator is the culprit, that or there is some sort of binding in the case.

If it was the actuator in the front axle, the 4wd light would illuminate, but the front axle wouldn't engage.

The front axle actuator is usually the failure, but have heard of quite a few case actuators go out.
