How do you conduct the layering technique? is it like pruning?

How do you conduct the layering technique?

You cut a piece of the plant's leaf, root, or stem off and bury it to produce adventitious roots and a new plant.
You place the plant stem or bud into another plant with a good root system to grow a new plant.
You bury a piece of the stem to produce adventitious roots and then cut the new plant away from the parent plant.

    THank you!!!
