Which of the following?
Government became more powerful.
Hinduism replaced Buddhism.
Society became more fractured.
The caste system was outlawed.
Which of the following?
I'll go for the first one : Government became more powerful.
Originating from the kingdom of Magadha in the eastern side of the sub-continent, the empire had its capital city at Pataliputra (near modern Patna). Emperor Chandragupta Maurya expanded his power westwards across central and western India. By 316 BCE the empire had fully occupied Northwestern India, defeating and conquering the satraps left by Alexander. In fact it is perhaps the most powerful civilization to rule Indian subcontinent. At its greatest extent, the Empire stretched to the north along the natural boundaries of the Himalayas, and to the east stretching into Assam. To the west, it reached beyond modern Pakistan and significant portions of present Afghanistan. The Empire was expanded into India's central and southern regions by Emperor Bindusara, but it excluded a small portion of unexplored tribal and forested regions near Kalinga.
Hinduism never replaced Buddhism. In fact when Ashoka embraced Buddhism, Buddhism became more popular. Even Chandragupta embraced Jainism leaving Orthodox Hinduism. So "Hinduism replaced Buddhism" cannot be true.
Society became more fractured : on the contrary, society was most united during the Maurya Dynasty.
The Caste System was Outlawed - this is true to some extent. But this cannot be conssidered as the MOST major change.
This is hardly an Earth Science & Geology question. In future, pl. post your question to its correct and proper category to invite better responses.
