how to unlock the sim card of the sony ericsson j100i?

the sony ericsson j100i is given to me by a friend from hong kong
and the sim card that comes with it, does not work
it says "SIM CARD LOCKED", how do i unlock it for free, because i dont want to spend any money doing anything with this phone
i just wanted to see if this phone works in canada
