i want to download linux operating system to a 16 gig flash drive i need to know everything i have to do to make it happen. do i need a special version on linux? can i install it straight onto the drive?

you can do it from any version of ubuntu, there is an option in the settings to make a bootable linux thumb drive. Simple:P you can run that off a disk
