For my upper body im wearing a mid-weight base layer, a fleece and a parka, because it is snowing on mt. washington. But for my legs i was thinking a base layer and snow pants but they seem too heavy, and the cargo pants get wet. what should i wear on my legs?
My layering system for my legs for snow consists entirely of synthetic long underwear pants and water resistant coated nylon windbreaker type pants on top. Some people might prefer Gore-Tex pants, but I think the coated but non-seam sealed windbreaker pants function identically for less weight and less expense. I wear the REI MTS midweight thermals and Sierra Designs Microlight pants, which are my answer to your question:
