    1. Nuclear missiles 90 miles off the coast of the US? Kennedy simply couldn't allow this to happen.
    2. If the US failed to get the missiles removed, the Communist government of Castro would have received legitimacy and prestige, what the US has been trying to deny them for last 50 years.
    3. It highlighted the US nuclear capabilities in Turkey. Publicity was not wanted for these sites.
    4. A victory of Khrushchev over Kennedy would have severly impaired Kennedy's future foreign policy.
