    Is wind shear the same as wind strength?

    Is wind strength the same as wind shear? im doing an assignment on tropical cyclones and im not sure of wind shear is the same as wind strength if there not whats the difference between both of them?

    No;wind strength represents wind speed;that is, whether the wind is strong or weak;in other words whether the wind speed is more or less.But wind shear represents sudden change in wind speed and direction with height.If there is abrupt change in wind direction and speed within a small height difference,then we can say that the wind shear is strong.

    Wind strength is about the speed of the wind. Wind shear is something completely different. Wind shear is a wind that occurs close the ground in a horizontal direction. It is caused by temperature and/or pressure differentials. The best example I can give is of an airplane trying to land. They are moving at about 140mph. The encounter suddenly a 50mph tailwind that takes the lift out of the wings and they fall to the ground.
