    Normally there's no need to bring any kind of proof of insurance because insurance has absolutely nothing to do with buying the bike. Neither is it the dealer's responsibility if you ride it home uninsured. If a cop stops you, he's going to ticket you, not the dealer. Insurance is needed to get it licensed, not purchased. If you're borrowing money from a bank, dealer or or other lender, they will require you have full coverage insurance to protect their investment.

    If you're going to ride it home, then you need to have already talked to your insurance agent and told them what kind of bike you're buying. That way you'll be covered should something bad happen. After to have the bike, you can then provide them with the VIN##, model and so on. I've been with my agent for probably 25 years and in your kind of situation, all I've needed to do was make a phone call to be covered. Afterwards I provided him with the needed info and paid him.
