First line is the tip amount, second line is for the tip + meal total added together. Did you add them together? If yes, that is their fault for doing it wrong. That happened to me at iHop haha.

How do you tip if you don't have any cash at a restaurant?

Basically here's my question, I recently went to a restaurant where they bring you the check to your table in a little folder type thing with a little pocket for your card. So there's your receipt which shows the amount you owe for the dinner so you place your card in the little pocket and since I didn't have cash on me I was kinda shy to ask how I can pay my tip, so when the waiter took the folder with my card he then brought it back and in the folder was another receipt with two lines for me to fill out for how much I owe and how much I want to tip so I wrote the tip amount and took my credit card and we went home, but when I checked my bank balance they only took off the amount I owed for dinner and not what I tipped them, so why would they bring the second receipt to you after they run your card for payment? How do you let them know you want the tip on the card?

if you write the tip on the card then the waiter should get that amount sounds like the restaurant screwed up

You write in the tip amount on the FIRST receipt as: "Tip" and the amount.

If the amount is pending, it will only show the amount of your bill without tip. Once it goes through, however, it will be for the full amount including the tip. The tip only shows up on the bank statement once it has gone through. I have no idea why this is, but its the way I've always seen it done. Don't worry, it will eventually go through and the tip will show up.
