what's a good breed of dog that will be able to live with my family aged 9-14 and a

3 year old cat.? we live close to a park so exercise is not a problem but our house is medium sized so we are not looking for a massive dog but if one fits our requirements please feel free to post it. our cat is a domestic short haired crossed with a Abyssinian cat (we think) and is very flexible so is our routine and time schedule.
feel fee to add stories about your own dog and how cheeky its been and the upside and downside of having it. We are very open to information and do not mind anything you put up as long as its not offensive.
also what are your thoughts on jack russel terriers
sorry i meant not russell russel

Shi tzu's are great family pets. They are small, and fun-loving. They do well with cats, just not kittens. They are easy to groom, just need a regular brushing. And do not need much exercise.

I would recommend a beagle. i got mine as my first dog and they have beautiful natures and are small and friendly. He got on great with out cats as a pup and we recently got a kitten that was bottle fed and when he got bigger my beagle attached himself to him and now he thinks he's a dog.
The only catch is they're uber smart and need good training as pups, but the hard work is absolutely worth it. they can also locate food quicker than you put it down, lol
