Yes you can put a bigger engine you can use a 5sFe 2.2L use the 2.2L motor mounts. or u can turbo ur car with a 3sgte 2.0L. from a all trac or a mr2. Note the turbo motor is not has easy to install. but it could still be done with little mods. I would put the 2.2 in but if u had extra money the turbo engine would be better. I have 2 motors one is 92 114,000 miles. the other is a 93 123,000 miles. there both 2.2l 5sFe. You could buy motors off of ebay or craiglist.
