How do I mix oil and Gas in My 1974 Kawasaki TS 250? Please help.?

I just bought a Kawasaki TS 250 and took the tank off to make minor repairs and replaced the gas. I put regular gas in the tank and 2 stroke oil in the oil tank under the seat. It started right back up and ran well for a few nmunuites then died. It acts as if it is flooding out? Did I make a mistake mixing the fuel? Or what is the correct way? Please help..
