What is the best way to keep track of your paintings?

As an artist, I create many paintings of various sizes and subjects. How can I create a code or system to track each piece so that when looking at my inventory list, I know which one it is?

Catalog your works with a digital image and set up a numerical system that corresponds to the date finished. This allows you to catalog your works visually and keep things findable. I've organized just this past year and it has done wonders for my professional productivity.

Number them with....0108... as the first one in the year 2008.. and the second one as 0208....keep a journal for each year and after each date describe the painting
