I think the main reasons for this BS is the fact that often times science does not have the answers. So they attack it and go for the pseudo science which has the answers and doesn't bother with that pesky scientific method.

It's worked for quite a few people that I know. Whatever though, maybe it was the placebo effect. Either way they're still feeling well, so that is all that counts.
