The Newly released iOS 4.1 Beta for Developers can be Jailbroken on iPhone 3G and iPod Touch 2G, But Today the Developer of Sn0wbreeze has posted that Sn0wbreeze V1.8 Coming Soon (may be tonight) to Jailbreak iOS 4.1 Beta for iPhone 3GS (Old Bootrom), iPhone 3G, iPod Touch 2G on Windows..

so that means it still for old bootrom as sn0wbreeze cant jailbreak 3GS new bootrom

Guys stop patronizing sn0wbreeze its a big fake. . . . you can still use redsn0w for jb just use 4.0 ipsw on 4.0.1.

Is it only for the iOS 4.1 beta or also for the iOS 4.0.1 firmware?

You can use this redsn0w from June to jailbreak 4.0.1 on iPhone3G. Just point it at the 4.0 IPSW (the public one, not the developer GM one).
(Yes – point it at the 4.0 IPSW even though you're at 4.0.1).
This will also hacktivate your iPhone3G at 4.0.1 if you haven't already been activated by iTunes. Install ultrasn0w if you need a carrier unlock (and in the USA, remember to turn off 3G mode in Settings→General→Network).

Anyway, we have to wait and see what it brings.
