My friend at this time it's not posible to unlock iPhone 3G 5.12.1 but u can jailbreak it by using redsnow download readsnow & download firmware 3.1.2 then search on YouTube about the video easy way is that

If you have a restored,previously locked iPhone that say "Emergency call"
after update to firmware 3.1.3
Hactivation does not work with modem fw :5.12.01.
If not activated in iTunes with correct sim it will not work......
You dont even get a tab with "Mobile network settings" and the phone will say No service or will show no signal bars.
If you check "General" tab under "carrier" it will say "Not available".
You can jailbreak it and use it as a very expensive ipod.
Thats the big fuss............

What version 3.1?
3.1.3? 3.1.2? etc

To get Emei there are 2 very easy way's for a fully locked to Network iphone.

With iPhone powered on, you see the Slide Bar,

SLIDE FOR EMERGENCY

Upper right corner of the bar, there is a i in a circle, touch it! Emei appears on screen!

Or pull out the simtray, behind that pc of plastic (simcard holder) you will get the emei, and Serial Nunmber SN

u can use iphone active card to active your iphone,then jailbreak it

Okay. Also do you know what network the handset is currently locked to? If not, please try following this guide on how to Jailbreak the handset. This will bypass activation and allow you to access the menus. This will NOT unlock the phone for use with different networks.

Unfortunately its not true, 5.12.1 is possible by IMEI as yassin said. 100% tested on O2 and Orange UK.

Hi all, i have 3GS 3.1.3 bb 5.12.1 with latest boot
can somebody help me to activate it? a have NO original sim!!! can i activate it with software? i want activate it and jailbrake, i know at this time is impossible to unlock it.

Imei Unlock is , as you say, available only for som Spanish, UK carriers. O2 and Orange.
But for the rest of the world it is not possible to unlock via IMEI.
