While Restoring firmware iOS 3.1.1/ iOS 4.0 using iTunes 9.2, if u are ended up with errors like 16xx, 2003, the problem is with your USB ports.
FIX: Try using other USB ports. do not plug into the ports available in front/hub of your PC, try USB ports provided on the back of your CPU.
If other ports doesn't seems to work, try at your friend's PC.
i have tried on 4 computers, finally able to fix all errors & was able to restore the custom jailbroken iOS 4.0 using redsn0w.
if you want to restore/downgrade do not use iTunes,
use redsn0w_0.9.5b5-4 for windows. put your device in DFU mode n follow the instructions provided on screen on redsn0w.
it will take 15-20 minutes to restore jail broken iOS 4.0
later you can unlock using ultrasn0w 0.93 with or without wifi mode.
PS:
Do not panic, you never bricked your iphone unless your screen is dark/black & nothing happens when u try to turn it on.
if your device enters into recovery mode, & if u are unable to restore & you are ended up in error modes in iTunes, use redsn0w to restore n jailbreak ur iphone.
i spent 5 days in reading blogs, posts, watchin videos to restore my iphone back, once i restored it back its a piece of cake, it'll takes just 20 minutes to restore, jailbreak n unlock. just have patience.
i did changed 4 computers to restore back, in most of the cases the error codes are related to usb ports.
