Any Orange UK android handset MUST be downgraded to a stock HTC rom before non-Orange source unlock codes will work ...

are you sure, downgrading will work ? even m stuck with HTC Tattoo, downgrading, de-branding not helped me.
and about X10, i never faced problem. code from Orange.
