If you have previously unlocked your iPhone 3G using any temporary unlocking methods like software unlocking, Your iPhone will then get relocked to its previous network after an update.
If you have previously unlocked your iPhone 3G using any permanent unlocking methods like remote unlocking service, Your iPhone will then not get relocked to its previous network after an update.
so you can try updating it. If it gets relocked, Visit ClassicUnlocking.Com and get the remote unlocking service. This method of unlocking an iPhone is safe, simple, affordable, quick and permanent. It does not require jailbreak too. Good luck.
