Do you think it should be mandatory in the US that labels indicate whether or not products contain genetically modified ingredients, as they do in the UK?
Nope, all answers are welcome!

I wouldn't say it's because most people just "don't understand". There is absolutely no confirmation that long term it's just as safe as non GM foods. It's not just alties or the unscientific/uneducated that question it!

GM organisms include different genes inserted in different ways, so how are they able to make a general statement about the safety of all the GM foods? Especially considering there have been no epidemiological studies to determine whether engineered crops have caused any harm to the public. Not only that, but the environmental impact it has makes it very questionable.

Rhianna - being in the UK, would you have a preference between the GM soya beans or the non-GM soya beans?
But shouldn't the allergy aspect of GM foods be enough to make GM labeling mandatory? Here in the states, they must label when foods contain milk, eggs, fish, crustacean shellfish, peanuts, tree nuts, wheat, and soy. So if a person can tolerate a non-GM foods perfectly fine, but has an allergic reaction to the GM version of that same food because it contains molecules of a another organism they are allergic to, shouldn't that be enough to require GM labeling?
