Phone stolen, deactivated and got back

My phone was recently stolen and i deactivated it, the day after i deactivated it i got it back, when i got it back i noticed all my pics, contacts and vids were gone, was this because the person who stole it erased it all or will it all magically come back when i reactivate it

Phone stolen, deactivated and got back

I powered up my previous phone (LG VX8600) which was deactivated when I got my present phone (Moto Z6tv) with VZW. Then I checked, and all of my pictures, ringtones, and contacts were still there on the VX8600. Deactivating the phone does not wipe out the phone data, it just make the phone unusable on the network. Whoever stole your phone may have cleared out all of your personal data, hoping to reactivate it as a new phone (probably not possible due to the phone's MEID ... could be traced as stolen).
