    Keep my existing number.

    hello friends,
My existing at&t number is from NY. I am living right now n the suburbs of Chicago. My contract has ended with at&t in sept 2008. I keep checking out for good deals on cellphones as any human would do. I just happened to visit wirefly dot com which offers good deals on AT&T cellphones . I saw a good deal on LG Incite. Now my Question is. How can i get this phone with keeping my existing number on this new connection. (wirefly dot com wants me to signup for a new connection). Please help. .
there must be some way out. I searched many websites but not a suitable answer.

    thanks

just call them and tell them you want to keep your number i used to work for a partner of at&t theres a form you fill out to request to bring your phone number to a different provider i forgot what we used to call this process but this was 4 years ago. couldnt hurt to call and ask the new provider

What your trying to do is called "porting out", and if the new provider will accept the number it should'nt be a problem. Just call ATT and get the account number. If your porting out, you have to start with the new provider, they have to request the port. I dont know why you're switching,ATT is the juggernaut of telecommunications, but if you insist pick up the phone.
