Thanks Brandon. That got me to the "root cannot run in production builds" error. I tried the command you mentioned in thread #27 but that kicked out an operation not permitted error. I noticed some chat on another forum about using APN Backup & Restore in order to make the MMS settings changes without root privileges. I'll see what I can find.
that is what i had to do on the hero as i kept getting the same root error as you. I Had to switch to D.C. rom for it to work. It didnt work on the stock rom. Flash Damage control then use apn backup and restore. Back up your apn, plug your usb cable in and mount the card. Pull the apn off and edit it with nopepad. Change vtext to mycricket. I didnt have to change port numbers or anything just change vtext to mycricket save and put it back on the card. Open apn back and restore it.
hope it helps

Turns out I was able to get MMS working WITHOUT gaining root access and on the stock ROM using APN Backup & Restore. I guess this means my Eris is now fully flashed?
Many thanks to Brandon, Paul, and others.
I have a question: I have tried flashing the newest DamageControl rom but when I do I lose mms capabilities Im wondering if I use APN Backup & Restore and edit it with notepad will i be able to get mms working?
