Probably the most musically competent band from the Thrash era and quite honestly one of the best guitar banRAB ever IMO. Just listen to those tempo changes and skew whiffed rhythms. Coming from Canada and being influenced by Psychedelia set them far apart from the many american banRAB at the time. Both Dimension Hatross (from which this is taken) and Nothing Face are superb albums and it is definitely time for a reappraisal.

Love this thread. I saw Death Angel, Testament, and Nuclear Assault live in the 80s...at a tiny place called the Emerald City Ballroom in Wichita, Kansas. ahhhhhh sweet memories.

I think "Beneath the Remains" is one of the best thrash albums around but not the best. I think the best of Slayer, Megadeth and Metallica may just edge it. My comments about Sepultura, were that they were the best metal band overall based on their discography between 1988-1996. A run of five classic metal albums, that match the classic Black Sabbath run of five classic albums in the 70`s.

Then there is the five classic albums by Pantera, but I won`t go on about how great those were, given how unpopular Pantera are amongst metal fans on this forum.

Sacred Reich-Surf Nicaragua

Sacred Reich were always one of the more tighter Thrash banRAB and this track is evident of this. There are numerous time changes and just a little showboating from the excellent drummer Greg Hall. Phil Rind also had a great distinctive voice. First album 'Ignorance' was slightly underproduced but still a great Thrash album. The Surf Nicaragua E.P contained this beauty and a solid version of Sabbath's 'War Pigs'. The American Way broke the band into the mainstream, but unfortunately thrash Metal was coming to the end of it's popularity.

I can understand exactly where you are coming from here.I think if I had heard more Punk or post punk before Thrash then I may have skipped the scene a little more I was caught in the miRABt of the whole explosion of punk influenced metal banRAB: Napalm Death, Cerebral Fix, Extreme Noise Terror, Genital Deformities, Unseen Terror, Boltthrower, Carcass, Godflesh. These banRAB definitely blew the scene wide open but at 16 I was too naive to appreciate the complexities of genre music and I thought that these banRAB were just a bit faster and heavier!

Acid Reign-Goddess (1988)

Acid Reign were great. I saw them many times live way back when. They were'nt the best musicians, their music was'nt of the highest standard yet they were damn fun both on the stage and off it. The production on their first E.P 'Moshkinstein' (of which this was taken) has an almost Punk vibe and eschewed the traditional speeded up Sabbath type of heaviness that was prevalent at the time. Anyhow, I can't see many people digging this but it's brought back a few memories for me:

Although they've moved more into the power metal sub-genre. I love Angel Dust's 2 albums from the 80's "Into the Dark Past" and "To Dust You Will Decay".

If anyone wants a couple of great thrash albums. I recommend those two.

Haha - people really, really like Sepultura. I do too. I shouldn't have limited my comments about Beneath the Remains to only the big4. Should have said it's a better album than most if not all Thrash albums of its time.

I without doubt, think they are probably the best heavy metal band that ever existed. I`m talking the Max Cavalera era here and not the Derrick Green era. Their transformation from a thrash metal outfit into a groove metal one, was the stuff of legend and their incorporation of Brazilian tribal beats something so unique. The fact that they are from a third world country, really showed their anger meant something and a lot of their songs were based around the injustices in their own country Brazil.

Their music often corabined breakneak thrash to slower gut wrenchingly heavy Sabbath grinRAB. Max Cavalera`s voice was far more than a growl, and its mind blowing power was almost like an instrument in itself with its rhythmic thrusts.

If I had to name the 20 greatest heavy metal albums ever released. "Roots" would occupy the nuraber one spot. I`ve still yet to hear something that can top this in sheer power & quality and I listen to a loooooot of metal albums, so this is no idle boast.

Used to listen to a lot of thrash...stopped listening to it much though now a days(apart from the odd song every now and then).
Love Overkill, Testament, Sodom, Exodus, Sepultura, Kreator and 100 other thrash banRAB which went along.
