Again, here's the rabroad thread from Gekko: http://discussion.rabroad.com/palmha...0&pagenumber=1

One theory I have in relation to that is...once the device goes mainstream at retail outlets, they P1 will probably release a set of updates for the T5. The other Tungsten models have many updates I see, so perhaps this will be the case?

    Jim,

Next time in CompUSA you may want to just do a "hard reset" since there is "nothing" synced with the unit. Might give you an opportunity to "play" a little more.

Seeing that I'm now living in Peru, I haven't seen a T5 yet. And prices on the models they do have are "outrageous" due to import duties of 30%. Add local taxes (19%) and you can see why I won't invest in a new Palm anytime soon.

Having lived in California and Florida, I certainly miss Fry's, CompUSA and all the other stores that cater to my "electonics" vice.

    Regards,

    fnagle / Frank

P.S. That unit may have been the one seen on CNet

I got a chance to play with a T5 at the local CompUSA store today. It's a little larger than I thought it would be but it was light and thin and really felt more like a Clie than a Palm.

I'm sure the screen is nice but this unit only had a white screen showing no matter what button I pressed. I even took the stylus and did a soft reset and still got nothing but the white screen. I could hear the screen taps registering but nothing else. I've seen Palm's that were screwed up by people fooling with them at a store display but never anything like this. There was a T3 right next to it with about a hundred dummy entries in every PIM section that people had put in while trying it out and it was working fine. Gives me pause about how resistant OS 5.4 is to people just hitting the wrong buttons at the wrong time.

I replayed 3 times, and apparently all she did was hit two outside buttons and the left arrow button to get the reset. The quick cut-away was hilarious!! Call the Fire Department!!

She obviously knew NOTHING about the unit - and unlike the famous tape of Windows crashing at a Gates symposium, edited out were the "OH! It's gone blankey blankey!"

There's an old musician joke that if you want a slight distortion in a guitar amp's "clean channel," just buy a Peavey. Don't know why that shot into my head . . . . must remember not to mix the Danish Bleu Cheese spread with tequila . . . . . .

    fnagle:

    Thanks for posting the link.

I got a kick out of hearing the T5 described as "elegant" and "sexy" with a "gorgeous display." Que Mango!

You all might get a kick out of this... seems that the T5 crashes, not once, but twice in this demo...

I will PM you on this. Yes, TealScript is FANTASTIC, but apparently there are problems on . . . you guessed it . . . the T5.

I'd have to see what apps are in the "package." More in the PM (There's no need to make everyone's eyes roll on here . . . they know how I can go on about Tealpoint!!).
