I'm curious to hear of what your opinions are on Simpsons. Do you see it as a show with rather crude humor and idiotic characters or is it more to you? (And if it is, please tell how so.) I'm reading Simpsons and Philosophy right now and, well, I'll let you know the reason behind this survey-esque post after some responses.

Now go, minions. Brian's back and, um, I don't know. Grilka, how do I sound threatening? You seem to do it so well. Hee.

    Hmm

I think The Simpsons has evolved into more than just an animated dysfunctional family. I think it has also been a source of knowledge. Here's a couple of examples:

The Raven by Edgar Allen Poe -- it was featured in one of the TOH. It's a well known poem in itself. As one of the TOH short stories, it's reaching out to a wider audience who may never have heard of it.

Various religions: Christianity, Judaism, Hinduism, Buddhism have been incorporated into entire episodes. Religion can be a sensitive/controversial topic, but the show presents it in a humorous way yet without poking fun at it.

    I agree with Grilka.

Its evolved into more than just eye candy, but knowlegable to an extent dealing with various religions: Flanders's Christianity, Krusty's Judaism, Apu's Hindusim, and Lisa's Buddahism.

The Simpsons is a show, not just something on TV with idiotic characters. They spoof things really well and a lot of the time, there's some moral in the episodes.

It certainly goes beyond morals, actually. The philosophy that can be foudn within it is f'ing amazing. I'd share right now, except I'm a bit busy. I think I say that everytime, but... well, yeah. That's pretty much it.

    I'll have free time tonight.
