Gmail Java Mobile Software is Awesome

Has anyone got this working on either an N80 or with Voda UK? I've installed and it loads fine, but when it tries to connect (regardless of which access point I use) it fails. My N80 has the following:

    Vodafone GPRS
    Vodafone GPRS (01)
    Vodafone Internet
    Vodafone int
    Vodafone WAP
    Vf Post ISP

None of these seem to work. I can access the web just fine using the built-in browser, but not via this app.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks,

    Tom

I don't need that cuz once I read an email, it's over, finished, deleted.

If it's left in my inbox then it's important

But I can relate to your need as I used to flag stuff for various reasons on MS Outlook.

In the stock email app, you can always mark as UNREAD anyways if you wanna keep a msg highlighted

^^ AND if you know how to work with labels which make sorting tons of emails a snap.
Man, the most underused feature in gmail.

Wirelessly posted (Pearl: Opera/8.01 (J2ME/MIDP; Opera Mini/2.0.4509/1378; en; U; ssr))

I have tried the app and the stock app and must say i prefer the stock app over the cute pretty gmail java application.

I have an outlook contact book that i sync so the gmail list is redundant. The only real advantage to it is that if you like adding stars (flags) to your email.

ya my guess was educated since I know very well the capabilities of the E61 client and the limitations of Java

However you added nice little features on the app which are good to know for people who dont have Quickoffice/Officesuite and the money to pay for GPRS fees from push email

I think that app is golden for non-smartphones though.

^^, Yes, crappy Java. But...hey, what the hell if you use Gmail a lot. Indeed, no noticed, but then again it is free.

Don't get me wrong, I found my own work around (forwarding my email to a specific service that pushed your gmail in. However, I do have a number of Gmail accounts and I am also one of those users who use labels, and so far, no other client, aside accessing it through your browser, gives you that opportuny.

And for a free app, you can view word docs and PDFs. Of course that doesn't mean anything to me since I have office on my phone as well. But it is actually a nice, fast, and pretty looking dedicated service.

...Ultimately, you should not cast an opinion unless you have an educated guess, no?

Simply because I am happy not to have ANOTHER app running in the background that is JAVA (the horror) based, I will not even try it

Java apps cant give you notices when in the background - No flashing LED, no idle menue information, no phone contact list access.

All in all, pretty useless. The embedded client can do it all if you know what you're doing.

Duplicate emails? You can chose to either delete emails on gmail once received, or keep them on server. I dont see whats wrong with any of those options that work with POP3.

Ok, so you can search, however I think the Nokia Local Search allows it too. And if you retrieved all your emails, then you dont need to be connected to view them.

My contact list is on Outlook, which is a REAL contact list with all information possible on all contacts. Gmail contact list is redundant if you use outlook.

No attachements eh? Useless little thing

I dont know what you find awkward with it. I got a gmail account and I use the embedded client if I want to directly access it.

As for the constant connection, what I do is that gmail automatically forwards to my mail2web.com email address which is ActiveSync. My E61 is constantly connected so this is PUSH email with gmail. I can email people from my E61's contact list instead of having to duplicate all my contacts onto gmail.
