    Is an Evo worth Rooting?

I'm not sure what you mean by free tethering. Tethering via USB has been available for non-rooted users via a free app since May 2009 using Azlink. I use it all the time. If you have a data connection, it'll work. If the carriers blocked certain ports/etc then it would block them on the handset too.

    Is an Evo worth Rooting?

But if 2.2 has free tethering, what use will the $30/month service be?

    Is an Evo worth Rooting?

Now here's the thing... According to this Wikipedia article, Android 2.2 will have Tethering support, and Android 2.2 is coming very soon. However, the HTC Evo comes with Sense UI, which takes ages to update to new versions of the OS. I'd bet it'll be late 2010 or early 2011 before the Evo gets 2.2 unless you root it.

    Is an Evo worth Rooting?

I would root it just to tether for free and have control over the CPU clock speed. But for the average user, it doesn't need to be rooted.

    Is an Evo worth Rooting?

Although I a pretty big techie in general, I've really only jumped into the Android world since deciding on the evo after Sprint recently announced the pricing and plans.
So to get to the point, with the power of the evo hardware and the great sense UI, is it even worth rooting? (Oh, and about tethering-- I've heard about the app, but have also heard conflicting stories it doesn't work?)
