Can your dentist find out if you have cavities without probing in your mouth?

I have severe problems with being around people, or being touched, so going to the dentist is a serious problem for me. I was hoping to limit the amount of time that the dentist is touching my mouth or up close in my face. I am going in to get a permanant retainer re attatached after half of it popped off. My dad says he thinks I have a cavity so I need to get that checked. I'm just being hopeful that the only time he will be poking around in my mouth is during the re attachment. Any help would be appreciated.
