this might be a couple things since its a 99 i dont think its the radiator but it could be your thermostat or water pump
Overheating 1999 Mazda Protege? Hello, my car water temperature gauge is telling me that my car is overheating. But when I open the hood, there is no smoke, sweet smell, coolant is all there. I have not seen any leaks. What in the heck is going on. Also, my check engine light just came on today too. Any idea. Thanks is advance God Bless Leeza
