Every since campaigning for the last midterms the republicans have threatened a shutdown. People want things done in Washington. Can't do that with one side shutting down the government.

    Peachy
You need to hang out with smarter people. Libs right now have their mouths open and their ears closed. Their brains have just plain left the building. But then, that's par for the course, isn't it? lol

    Mr. Smartypants
Polls show the public is just about evenly split on who blames the Democrats and who blames the Republicans.

But the Republicans are the ones responsible for the shutdown. The Democrats tried to resolve the disagreement with compromise, but Republicans see compromise as capitulation.

When the Republicans took over the House of Representatives earlier this year, they made it clear, they announced openly, that their first priority was to deny Obama a second term. In other words, their first priority is to gain control of the government, NOT to run the country, to do what's best for the people. The shutdown is just another political ploy to embarrass Obama and the Democrats and neutralize them politically.

They did exactly the same thing when Clinton was president and they controlled Congress. Newt Gingrich, speaker of the house at the time, said President Clinton was -irrelevant- to the budget process, that he should just sign it because Congress gets to make the budget. Clinton vetoed the budget saying 'The Constitution makes me relevant'. Public opinion was strongly on the side of the Democrats in that one. This time people are about evenly split (but that could change. Wait and see how it plays out.)

I think (or at least I'd like to think) that most Americans are beginning to see that the Republicans are only trying to take it out of the hides of working people. They whine about the budget but they still fight for more and more tax cuts for gazillionaires, and more and more defense spending. If we're really going to get control of the budget, those things should be on the table too. When Obama was trying to get his health care bill passed, the Republicans posed as protectors of Medicare. Now they want huge cuts in Medicare. How hypocritical is that?

Democrats have shown that they are more than willing to compromise. They have already gone above the 33 million Republicans originally wanted. Republicans have refused to take yes for an answer and have shown that their primary concern are social issues like planned parenthood and they are willing to shut the government down if they don't get their way. Republicans try to say that Democrats are rooting for a shutdown, but it is at Republican rallies and meeting that you'll hear the chant: "shut it down." They control 1 house of a duel body, it is unreasonable for them to expect to get everything they want yet they act like children asking for more more more.

Only fools would think that it was the Republican's fault
The Dems had all three branches in line to pass anything they wanted and it is total BS that any filibuster could have stopped them because the House of Representatives can't do that and was not even close enough to try.
Dems feared getting canned in the last election if they passed another inflated budget.
They were shellacked anyway for spending to much.
Last time there was a shut down during Clinton it forced Clinton to balance the budget.
Could it be we elected some good people? Who care more about the budget than their political position?
    What a thought!
If they let Obama keep spending they way he has been they will not win a second term so why is it the Dems are not listening to the voters, the people?
Also if Obama believes in freedom why would he not pay the troops who can't just up and leave considering he has been handed a bill which would pay the troops on time if the governmnet shut down?
My opinion is that Obama is going to cave.
And if he does not cave, he is not going to win a second term period because he is supposed to represent the entire country not just those all the way over on the left side of the isle. Whom BTW he has also upset many ways including his war in Libya.
Anyway, don't let this governmnet shut down scare you, it is no big deal.
Not unless you or someone you rely on is paid through a program that will only temporarily have checks held. The post man will still come, the train will still work and the sun will still shine.
