Does a 1985 mazda rx7 13b gsl-se 5 speed manual need an oil cooler to function properly?

I have gone to several auto part stores and asked to replace the oil cooler hose on my 1985 mazda rx7 13b gsl-se 5 speed manual transmission oil cooler. Nobody around had the hose so i was forced to just buy the whole new oil cooler. today i go to kennectz to get the oil cooler and the guy says that because my car is a manual, it doesnt need the oil cooler, that the oil coolers are for automatic transmissions only? before i take off my current oil cooler and do this i need to know if my car will function properly or at all if i do this. Plz help. Thanks for reading.
Can i use an automatic transmission oil cooler on it instead?
