Universal remote: code in, tv on, but what then? how do I get it to change channel etc?

I have brought a Universal remote, model AN6002 for a Goodman's TV. I got the right code and followed the very badly written instructions and managed to turn the TV on. Its what follows that I am struggling with. If anybody knows at might be able to give me a list of instructions I will be very grateful or if they know someone i can ring who might be able to talk me through it. I have looked at videos and online and they all seem to say the same thing, to press the device button and put the code in, which I have done. If it helps, the device has a learning function. Please help! Thank you
Thank you, that's a good reply, I tried all the other codes but none worked, there is another part to the instructions but when carried out are not successful. Would it be the same if i were to buy a new (different) universal remote or will I simply be frustrated all over again. Thank you
