Anon you've gotten rid of that stuff as if you had burned the PC's down to piles of ash.

Go to bed, sleep calmly and sin no more.

You said:Well, newspapers lie, twist and spin the truth in order to sell newspapers. Even if they were telling the (whole) truth there is a little thing called evidence that law enforcement authorities need before making any arrests.

I've got a couple of suggestions:

    1) If you and your Dad use the same computer then get yourself your own PC and delete all traces of LW from the family's machine. So in the unlikely event that someone (law enforcement) comes in and demand the computer give them yours.

    2) Go and see a therapist or psychiatrist, making sure that everything you say is strictly confidential, and unburden yourself. Because if you continue to worry you will end up with ulcers, have a nervous breakdown or a heart attack, the human body can only take so much stress before it breaks down.

I'm going to speculate that when this stuff originally became available the word got out quickly among the addicts who then flocked to this new technology. Now its just down to replacements, i.e. some die off and are replaced by others therefore holding the demand steady.

That plus the continuing education of people as to the consequences of supporting this industry as is being done right here and numerous other sites.

this has happened before i believe which is why i think i deleted the program awhile back because the program LimeWire had these illegal files to begin with. Then having seen Frostwire and had entered in the keywords in the filter, i thought this wouldnt happen again. I'm thinking about never downloading the damn file searching things ever again cause this is bs theres some much crap on these servers. trying to find a good bdsm video sometimes gay (if that says anything about my orientation) instead i get something potentially illegal. its bullcrap. what happened was i entered gay **** (i like those dramas) and then i just hit shift key to get like all the ones above 10 gigs. so i must have had a good 50 or so legal ones and 3 were under the radar and got in the imcomplete folder. this really scared the turds out of me.

i deleted the files, the entire incomplete folder and defragged almost ten times.

seriously, why doesnt limewire or frostwire just set their own filter on their server already - jeebus

Aquatik above has summed up what I've been saying all along. The abusers are not the ones who accidently download this content.

First don't download anything labeled as such.

Second preview anything you download. If its suspicious stop the download.

Get a free shredder from Download.com and shred any file and preview you have downloaded that is suspect.

That alone is enough to do it. Remember the law says thou shalt not [B]possess[B]. If you don't got it you don't got it. You don't possess it.

Go ahead and clear your cookies and browse history. Its easy enough to learn how. Its not necessary but for peace of mind do it if you want.

I'll guarantee this that if Canada passes laws making it illegal to download they will catch some poor ******* probably a high school kid who doesn't know what he's doing. This kid will have his life ruined because he downloaded a picture of what he could have seen in person by dating the right girl. He will be persecuted, jailed, registered and fined. This will continue until some big-wig kid gets caught and the system is brought to its senses.

The Mafia was beaten somewhat into submission not by arresting the guys highjacking trucks but by putting the Godfathers in jail for tax evasion, corruption of public officials and conspiracy. Law enforcement money is better spent on finding the guy behind the camera. They've done it and they can do it again. In fact they're trying to do it right now.

Once Limewire is controlled EVERYTHING on it will be controlled.

I buy the Pro to help keep their defense fund full.

    Guys

I too find that there are "holes" in this story, for example unless this youngster's Limewire app was secretly communicating with the FBI (which is possible) how could they possibly know he had this objectional material?

Also, usually the authorities and the record industry can only find out if you have something if it is being shared in your "Share and Imcomplete" folders.

Unless told otherwise, I can only believe that this youngster must have inadvertantly shared these dodgy files over a period of time and then deleted them.

Even so I still think that the FBI catching this kid only warrants giving him a caution/warning rather than a conviction.

Curious, frost158 said he turned his computer over to the police, but he did not say why he did that.

    Thanks for clearing that up.

As many people will agree 90% of theadult files on the network are not what they are coded to be, so your average 18 y/o movie will infact be either CP or some 50 y/o mother with more tatoo's than ink allows and more peircings than a voodoo doll!

I am well against CP and that, I was disgusted the other day when downloading a movie from another host I browsed their files, much to my amazment and disgust there must have been 200+ cp files there. No comes the prediciment on what to do?,
    do I
    a) report it - then get in trouble for downloading adult stuff from them (not CP by the way)
or just shrug it off as life has it.

I blocked the ip address striaght away so can't find out what it is again!

Please get the tempers down again.

People who come here mostly are already scared, and we give them advice what they can do which can work.

I won't go telling someone "just erase the file, then you're safe", if I know that to be wrong.

    I prefer saying
"First: calm down. You're not likely to get into problems.
Second: If you want to delete the file, do it right."

Followed by an explanation, how to do it right, and what risks remain.

And playing with the names of others is a definite act of aggression.

    And while I'm at it:
Never EVER open a site in freenet which has a name similar to a certain widespread PnP RPG. That's how easy it is to see really bad files by accident.

    Best wishes,
    Arne

I don't know whether Aaron is an undercover DEA agent but that "defrag destroys all evidence" is pretty much nonsense. Especially running defrag after format is completely pointless. You thought you're smart because you knew that's gonna be faster, right? After a format completely fill the disk with non-compressible data. That should really destroy all evidence unless you're public no. 1 in which case the billion to restore the data anyway might be justified. Yeah I know under Windows such a simple task is really difficult to accomplish. Just download a boot disk for Linux or any BSD and use dd to overwrite your disk (dd if=/dev/zero bs=64k of=/dev/path_to_raw_device). That's a one-liner and effective.

Nonetheless, you should really use disk encryption and get some Alzheimer. There's no safer way and I'm pretty sure real lolipedofins are smart enough for that.
