    Poll: Kazaa V. Gnutella

A friend of mine had Kaaza for his teenage son. They bought the entire package with AV maybe two years ago. When I told them about LW we did some comparison searches. LW was bringing in on average about 10x the number of returns than Kazza. Once the test results were obvious they dumped Kazza and installed LW.

I would have to say recently limewire is defently beating kazaa and kazaa has alot adware not spyware anymore and its slow, the only thing i find on kazaa anymore is older songs and files, those torrents are just sucky for finding rare files

I have had limewire for about 2 months now and apart from one or two viruses [i don't download anything off programmes now] and the annoying "Not what it says it is" thing i like it a lot.I downloaded Kazza and my spyware/anti-virus went bonkers it said bassically it was full of un-removable spyware and a virus that was basically a keylogger.Well i went on the internet and read nothing but bad things about it so i deleted it all scanned the computer and there where a lot more than original thought. My advise don't touch Kazza with a broom handle it's is rubbish.
My friend has it and he says his computer is running slow all the time and his spyware keeps finding new things just off the kazza prgramme.I asked him why he downloaded it after such bad press and it appears that most dance/dj's/house/techno mp'3's live there it suppose to be the best place to download dance music.
Me personally wouldn't download it again ever.

My opinion is the old press coverage of Kazaa, increased by its legal problems, caused by the fact that a single company controls officially the FastTrack protocol, whose development is not targetting users for users, but Kazaa's own business plan.

Due to that, they create a network that they want to control completely to avoid access by foreign servents, and they have a big influence on that network which is very attractive for the RIAA/MPAA/BSA alliances.

Well Gnutella is very popular now too, but it can be used very often for something else than what a servent developer would like. Gnutella is not controled, and this gives an advantage now to Gnutella, which continues its slow progression, with several good servents developed with public objectives, and now available without any spyware, adwarea or bundles like Kazaa, and supported correctly (I would not download one of those Kazaa-like copies: not sure about their content, and it is well know that it really creates a storm of settings in the network configuration, in installers, etc...).

Try to uninstall safely Kazaa, you'll regret it. The only safe option is to use the Windows XP system snapshot to come back to before its installation: the Kazaa installer writes things everywhere on the system, and will slow down its performance even when you don't use it.

I really wish GTK-Gnutella would be ported to windows. It's my favourite Linux/UNIX client, and GTK has been ported to Windows for some time, so I think that that would pretty much rock.

After all, not all nerds out there are using Linux, and I'm sure many Windows-using nerds would really appreciate a client like GTK-Gnutella.
