Can you get scholarship money for your own apartment or house?

I'm asking about the city or the surrounding area of new York, my grandmother says you can go to college, have no job and no Support of your family and go to college with so crazy unknown scholarship that some how pays for your rent or mortgage and your food and stuff and I'm like.... I don't think that's a thing that happens anywhere.... I just wanna make sure I'm not getting this wrong.... :/ steer me in the right direction please...
