What do you think about politicians canvassing on liberating a country from terrorism?

The current head of state of SL has liberated the country from a ruthless terrorist organization LTTE, which comitted lots of suicide attacks on its citizens. But now the liberator (commander of the army, navy, airforce) has become a dictator. He changed the constitution so that he can become the president for unlimited terms. His son, two brothers are in the parliament. President himself is the minister of defense and finance. He has made lots of fancy massive-scale projects but still people are poor. There seems to be a lot of corruption. But still people votes him for saving the country from 30-year-old terrorism.
