    1995 mercury sable belt auto tensioner problems?

    I followed the directions installed the new auto tensioner...it says turn the 15mm bolt counter clockwise to loosen the auto tensioner to put the belt on but even with alot of pressure the auto tensioner will not budge...what do i do ?

    Are you using a wrench?Try"sniping" it.If you're using a ratchet/socket,try to find a long sturdy hollow bar to put over ratchet,and pull up with all your might.There is quite a bit of tension in those,and don't let go of tensioner when you get it loose,the spring inside is VERY strong,be careful,but they are VERY tight.

    You don't say what type of tool you are using to try and rotate the 15mm C/C

    However, it takes allot of leverage; usually something on the order of a beefy 18" breaker bar.

    Store bought standard length wrenches won't work.

    use a socket and breaker bar, not a wrench. it,s very strong to move.
