1936. How rare is it? It is The Complete Works of Shakespeare Illustrated by Rockwell Kent, the same man who illustrated Moby Dick, with a Preface by Christopher Morley. It was published in 1936 by Doubleday and Company, Inc.The hardback cover is in great shape, no cracks or rips which is great considering it was published in 1936. The cover is red with a cream colored spine. The original paper cover is still on it and although faded, it was placed in a plastic cover a long time ago so it is well taken care of. I am curious how significant or how rare one of these books are. it is the Cambridge Edition Text as edited by William Aldis Wright including the Temple notes. On the title page is says Garden City Books Garden City, New York.
It looks as if it belonged to a library in the 70s and 80s because there is a check out log in the back with the following dates stamped in it:
Mar 26 1973
Mar 26 1973
May 1 1973
Oct 29 1973
Feb 10 (smudge)
Jan 3 1984
Feb 27 1984

on the other side of the checkout slip, upside down it says:
Oct 30 1978

I think the history in this book is amazing! but I don't know much about this kind of stuff.
