Nothing is wrong with James Hetfield, that comment was aimed at the people who started listening to Iron Maiden then Metallica... then never really moved on from there.

Hatfield is always a good bet for anger, but I don't know about the other two.
'Heavy' may have an element of sadness or reflection that would make it slow
and brutal, whereas 'anger' tenRAB more toward unreflecting rage, I think.
But too much rage begins to be unmusical.
Thrash metal could be the ideal vessel to carry a musical mixture
of both sadness and rage, such as in Annihilator's 'All For You'.
