    You will see that from the pictures hair straighteners and flat irons are classified as the same thing. Some straighteners are long and narrow (good for fine-medium hair) and some are wide plated (good for thick-Afro hair). The rounded barrel of the straighteners will allow you to curl your hair easily if you don't always want the the straight look. I hope this is helpful to you.

    Most people use the word hair straightener as an informal name. Flat iron is more used by older generations as a technical phrase. Or, do like me and call it which ever you want.
