Is it ok to say fire and police are over paid?

Being from NY state, I understand your frustation with salary disparities. But the police are not to blame, whos to say that their job isnt worth what they're paid?

To say that because teachers only make XX amount, police should only make XX amount is a non-logical arguement.

This is true, in a way.

Good athletes can bring a city economic wealth.

More people go to the stadium to watch. Restaurants and bars make a ton more money because of the spike in foot traffic. More tax to be collected.

Is it ok to say fire and police are over paid?

of course there are well paid officials who deserve it.

However, when the union demanRAB equality for all officials based on title/"level"within the commonwealth/city ranking system, you start seeing officials overseeing 5 employees in a small town making the same as the type of people you listed.

It's a bit concerning, especially when schools are having cuts in the same state.

Police Officer standing next to an overnight construction job in Boston making OT and a detail wage? Totally common.

Cutting teachers/supplies/etc when they're already paid dog shit at the same time = .

It's mostly the overtime depleting the city funding that bothers me.

It's an obvious abuse of their union lobbying and entrenchment.

The work details in Boston are a shining example of the bullshit that is Police OT.

IMO, there are too many cops out there and not enough fire fighters.

Most of the time, cops are sent out to justify their positions by nitpicking bullshit laws that idiot politicians make to drum up money to pay for their own purposes. If all the bullshit laws were removed from the books, you could easily cut HALF the cops out there and give the remaining ones a 50% salary increase and STILL save money.

With fire fighters, you don't want to really do that. They aren't going door to door doing smoke alarm inspections based on a warrant that was gotten on suspicion of not having one ... yet.

So if you want to get on the force so badly why not take the civil exam if you think you'll score perfect? Boston is always hiring and you being a resident will bump you to the top minus the veterans. I know that not all the new hires are veterans so you should be fine if you score 100. I turned down the state trooper academy for something local. It's a great career. What most people don't understand is that these salaries that everyone sees are including the overtime and details that we work in addition to our normal work schedule. I just worked a double shift yesterday. 16 hours...it sucked but I'm making money so I can't complain too much. Pm me if you have any questions.

Who are you to determine the exact amount thats appropriate? Are you a fire chief? Do you live in the region where fire chiefs are making this much?

If you think a job is overpaid, maybe you should go pursue that job.
