Need help with a 98 mercury mistique 4 cyl.? cuts out?

Runs fine until you your going up an incline and the overdrive kicks in. It starts to loose power like its not getting fuel and the tach runs high while the speed goes down. When you get to a level sufrace it seems fine. Any ideas would be welcome. By the way I've tried different gas, injector cleaner and dry gas.Could it be a censor or a clogged cadyletic converter.Dont know how to spell that one.Lol

Going UP an incline should cause the overdrive to kick OUT and the transmission to shift down. If this is what is happening and this is a long steep incline and your car is no powerhouse to start with, this would seem to be normal
