Does spanking a child count as child abuse?

I am fully against any form of violent punishment, I just want to know what other people think.

Not in the US. I rarely spank, I believe other methods can work (for most children) when used on a regular basis, but I'm not against spanking. I think spanking, when done in anger or to an extreme, can become abuse - but spanking in itself is not abuse.

No as long as no brusies or marks are left its perfectly legal. Its called corporate punishment.

I believe it is. I don't believe in spanking a child. There are other ways to discipline a child EX. taking toys away, time outs

you shouldnt BEAT a child but spanking are perfectly fine. Its the ones that are allowed to get away with murder as a kid that are gonna blow your brains out when they are 15..

Not child abuse necessarily. Some kids can be disciplined in other forms though so just try what's best for your little one.

i see my cousins do it to their children but only when they are going too crazy. I think its child abuse when you do it constantly or for enjoyment. I absolutely hate it when people hit their children because if you do it constantly the child is going to live in fear and won't learn anything.
