And if it is, why is it a beginners guitar? Is it overall a good guitar?

It's comfortable neck, fast action, versatile pickup configuration and affordable price make it an excellent first time electric guitar
any guitar can be a beginners guitar, you just have to be sure it's a comfortable fit! Taylor guitars fit me better, so if Yamaha guitars fit you better use it!
I've played on a friends and it's a bl**dy great guitar for the money.
It's a very solidly built guitar - made to last - unlike budget Fenders which fall to f*ck*ng bits.
The neck is a dream to play on.
There's not much tonal diversity in the pickups. Everything is a bit... thin I would call it. Although, the humbucker does a great job of noise cancellation which is apparent when recording. Overall though, most people play through effects pedals and sh*t these days so tone is not usually an issue.
If tone is an issue for you then you need to fork out some money on something with a bit more character.
It's called a beginner's guitar because it's relatively cheap, the reason being that you wouldn't expect a complete novice to spend £500 or more on something they might not be any good at. As for its spec it looks OK to me; typical strat copy.
