You and I each have one lock and a corresponding key. I want to mail you a box with a ring in it, but any box that is not locked will be emptied before it reaches the recipient. How can I safely send you the ring?
(note that you and I each have keys to our OWN lock but Not to the other lock)

mail them your key and then mail the ring

First, I mail you my lock and I keep the key. You use that lock on the box, and mail it to me. I use the key that I kept to open the lock.

put in an evelope ( an envelope is not a box) or just actually give it to myself......

um just lock the box..... and tape the key in the bottom........ mmmhhh??

you could wrap the wring up in bubble wrap ( so it won't get damaged) and then you could put it in an envolope; this is not a box therefore the ring won't dissapear and you don't have to worry about the locks !!

Lock the box with your key and send it
Have your friend lock the box with their key and send it
You open your lock with your key and send it
And then your friend opens the box with their key and gets the ring...
