How to unlock/jailbreak an iphone?

first of all, i admit i dont know aaaanything about this. what is the difference in jailbreaking and unlocking?
is it safe or will it harm the phone? and what is the best way to do it?
my goal is just to make the iphone work for t-mobile.. thanks!

Hi unlocking and jailbreaking is different..unlocking means breaking unlocking your phone from your contract provider so that you will be free to use other provider's SIM in your mobile without any restriction and Jailbreaking means it will remove the restriction of downloading and installing softwares from Apple authorized sites only...there are many software available to unlock iphone and there are many online providers who provide the service..one of my friend got unlocked his iphone from Mobile-Unlocker.com by remote unlock method..and the important thing in remote unlocking is that the service will be available for some country and network providers only so if you are interested you can try from them before that see whether remote unlocking is available for your country and provider..
