Hi everyone, I just found this site and I am hoping someone may be able to help me.
My son has a 1985 Suzuki GS550L and has lost the only key. Would anyone know who I can contact to get a replacement?
Thanks!

My understanding is that he needs to procure a blank , then have a locksmith work his magic. If he wants one with a plastic head it'll likely need to be ordered online. Locksmiths usually only have plain metal ones.
Welcome to M-J!
First contact a Suzuki dealer with the VIN.
It is my understanding that they can make or get a new key but the cost might be rather high and you may have to prove ownership.
Otherwise, call a locksmith or three.
being an '85 and all, I would look for a boneyard and get another lock with a key in it.
Most likely cheaper than dealing with a locksmith, if involving a bit more time to get done.
If you have a locksmith come out and make a key, it will cost you a hundred plus. But if you tow the bike to the locksmith, you will pay maybe half that. I doubt the dealer can get you a key from the VIN for something that old, but it never hurts to ask.
I think you can get a new aftermarket ignition and 2 keys on ebay for around $26 shipped.
I used to go to the Mopar Nationals every year (3rd. week of August every year, Columbus, Ohio) and there was a vendor, I believe called "Classic Keys". Anyway, he had blanks for nearly everything including my 1966 Dodge and my Suzuki AC 50 Maverick. He was also very reasonable, like $12 ea. I suggest you check out the mopar nationals website and see if he's listed, or go to the event in August if you can wait. For me, I sold the 1966 Coronet and bought the bike of my dreams, Suzuki c50t with just enough money left over to travel cross county. Good Luck! I must admit the Dodge was a fun 10 yr. project, but the C50 is a gas!!!!
I have talked to my local locksmiths, for 25 bucks you can have a key made off the number on the ignition. On the side of the ignition there is a number and the locksmith can look it up and make a blank off of the code. It is a different number than the VIN.
