Twice now since I've been using F@H, it's crashed taking hours of CPU time with it. The first time I lost about 71% of a work unit, due to a communications error with the server:
"[06:21:45] Completed 355000 out of 500000 steps (71)
[06:33:02] CoreStatus = 1 (1)
[06:33:02] Client-core communications error: ERROR 0x1
[06:33:02] Deleting current work unit & continuing...
[06:33:22] - Preparing to get new work unit...
[06:33:24] + Attempting to get work packet
[06:33:24] - Connecting to assignment server
[06:33:27] + Could not connect to Assignment Server
[06:33:27] + Could not connect to Assignment Server 2
[06:33:27] + Couldn't get work instructions.
[06:33:27] - Error: Attempt #1 to get work failed, and no other work to do.
Waiting before retry."
Which prompted me to stop using it. I retried it the other day, got one WU completed. My PC crashed again today, and no surprise, F@H lost its WU again:
"[16:33:30] Completed 480000 out of 500000 steps (96)"

I'll be 4th within the next day or two :P [/b]
are you going for 3rd? [/b][/quote]
Well, yourself and IC have three CPUs; I know yours are slightly better than mine, and I don't know about IC but he seems to do well, so I'll be hard pressed to catch up with you. I'll overtake Clocker at some point though
try updaating your graphics driver,
has it always done this? or just recently?
Is it a Pentium 4 with HT tech? HT means it will only show it using 50% but its not really.
1. there shoudlnt be any risks with running it. just keep an eye on your temps after a couple of minutes
2. if you remove it, it wont remove everything, it will leave the work unit you are working on and previous settings etc. but can easily be removed by deleting the install folder.
3. not to sure, i think its just stanford/
4. i think its pretty worthwhile.
5. i think the pics are just random, although some of them do actually look like that
bummer. i dont think ive lost any WU so far anyway.Originally posted by 4th gen@22 March 2004 - 16:17
I had to format my comp the other day so I lost that big juicy WU
ive also just added another machine, a amd k6-2 500, with 256mb ram. running a little each day. running the genome@home, which is now just folding WU without a deadline, since its a slow machine, and not on alot.
you either missed the deadline or it crashed.Originally posted by kAb@18 February 2004 - 02:36
argh wtf my work unit started over
edit: the new core is now downloaded by default.
well Im done im frist package its was a 400 wu it took me 3 days to get it done. Im onto p563_BBA5_ext Its a Genome so I guess the things i put into the target worked because ive been doing this one for about 3hrs now and its 30/250(12%). I will never be in the top 10 but who cares im help out thats all that matters.
